Sustainability is a key issues facing the future of architecture and the construction industry. The term "sustainability" is also interpreted in many varied ways. Good design and architecture is inherently sustainable. However, never before have we have been able to measure the performance and energy input and output of the built environment. This ability to measure, has allowed us to fully understand the cost of bad design and bad construction methods. Using CO2 emissions a sustainability example, the construction industry is a major contributor. Therefore we have a responsibility as an industry to address this issue, from project conception and design, through to project disassembly. Patrick Roberts Architects are invested in the research in this area and work to reduce each projects impact on the environment with an understanding that each project forms a new part of the local ecology.
